WELCOME TO RADIO CHAVURA!
Founded: 1859
Okay, so we haven't been on the airwaves since before the Civil War (as far as we can tell, nobody has been on the airwaves since before the Civil War - radio wasn't invented until much later!). Truthfully, our program launch date should be listed as July 1, 2012.
So why do we write that our "Launch" date was in 1859? Because that's the year that the first known Jewish community was established in what would soon be called the Colorado Territory.
And, in many ways, our show begins with them: the first Jewish pioneers to make their way across the Great Plains and establish a community here in Colorado.
Over the last 155 years, Colorado Jewry has grown and thrived. We've produced leaders such as Frances Wisebart Jacobs and Golda Meir. We've brought to the world the United Way, Samsonite Luggage, and South Park. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, and accountants - servants of the larger community - have emerged from our population (which according to some estimates now numbers around 90,000).
At Radio Chavura, we celebrate and applaud Colorado's Jewish community. Each broadcast features members of community who have contributed in their own way to making our world a better place.
Welcome to our fellowship group. Our "Chavura." We've been in business since 1859.
